CrossFit Liberate came to the police department I work for and did a brief informational segment about the benefits of crossfit. I know that a lot of police officers do crossfit workouts but I had never done one. The coaches in attendance gave their stories and basically told us what CrossFit Liberate had to offer. I was already sold on joining the gym after the meeting but I wanted to do one free introduction class just to seal the deal (and to get a tour of the gym of course). I attended the introductory class and the rest is history. I joined the gym that night, on the spot.

My experience at CrossFit Liberate has been excellent. My mobility/flexibility has improved a lot and I simply feel better and stronger overall. I was somewhat leery of CrossFit initially, just based on some things I had read on the internet. I had the impression that it was dangerous or that I would get hurt, or maybe that I would not even be physically capable of doing the workouts. Boy was I wrong. I wish I had started CrossFit sooner but I really had not had the opportunity until CrossFit Liberate came along. Every coach I have worked with has been great. They make sure I do the moves properly and they also give me alternative moves to do like when I simply cannot do a pullup. I have been at the gym for a few months now and I love it. I am injury free, more flexible, and stronger. I never thought lifting weights could be so technical, yet so fun.

Don’t let your fears or limitations keep you from giving CrossFit Liberate a try. The coaches, the community, and the support are awesome and you will definitely leave the place feeling good about your workout and about yourself. You will be anxious and excited to come back the next day and try a whole new workout.

I love CrossFit Liberate! Jack, Gillen, Nat, Jan, and the entire team have been so welcoming. I haven’t done CF in a few years and I was a little nervous getting started again. I had no reason to worry, every instructor walks through the steps of each movement and lift to insure correct form. The emphasis is on getting a great workout no matter what age or level athlete you are. Liberate is a great community and I’ve enjoyed meeting so many friendly people. The facility itself is beautiful and clean with plenty of space. They offer yoga, on-site physical therapy, free community WODs in addition to CF. From the owners to every member of staff, these folks take great pride in their work, there is absolutely no intimidation, and it’s so much fun. A great community and I encourage anyone to check it out.”

“My first experience with CrossFit Liberate was through the Gut Check training/group runs they put on in conjunction with Fleet Feet. I wanted to try something that pushed me out of my box physically and socially. CFL checked both of those boxes – the workout was a blast and everyone was super welcoming. Prior to attending classes at CrossFit Liberate, I thought CrossFit was all about finishing workouts as fast as possible with little regard to proper form or personal safety. I’ve never worked out at another box, but at CFL that couldn’t be further from the truth. I appreciate CFL’s emphasis on correct form and the willingness of the coaches to give me feedback on movements/techniques during and outside of class. I’ve always loved being active, but CFL has reinvigorated my love for exercise, learning new skills, friendly competition, and getting really, really sweaty. I think people are scared to try CrossFit because they feel they aren’t “fit” enough, but one of the great things about CrossFit is the ability to scale workouts to where you are in your fitness journey. At CFL there is never any judgment about a person’s skill level because everyone has their own strengths and weaknesses. The supportive team atmosphere at CFL is what ultimately convinced me to join. This community is exactly what I was looking for in Athens post-grad and I am so stoked to be a part of it.”

  • Shannon Masters

“I recently moved to the Athens area and was looking for a community that cared about CrossFit and its values. I called CFL and Jack was very responsive and helpful with any questions and concerns I had. I was anticipating the coaches to be super tough and expect me to be perfect but that is absolutely not the case. I feel very welcome and the coaches are helpful and I do not feel embarrassed or ashamed to ask questions.  When I first started CrossFit I didn’t think it would be for me, but once I started to see the changes that came with my commitment I was hooked! CrossFit is for everyone at any level. The only requirement it dedication and determination. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. We all start somewhere.”

“I’ve had an incredible experience so far at Liberate. It’s always nerve-wracking going to a new place, especially a new gym, but I had some connections with the coaches aside from my brother and I knew I’d be in good hands. Jack was super welcoming at the initial one-on-one and was really great about helping me figure out my membership when I first signed up. I was a little nervous about going to my first class (I decided I would become a 5:30am person) but that group has been fantastic to work out with. The coaches every day are wonderful about helping me scale movements and weights and answering my silly questions on a pretty regular basis. Every class I’ve been to has had a really supportive and encouraging atmosphere, we’re always cheering each other on and helping each other get through the workout. It’s not as scary as it seems! For years I watched videos of my brother lifting huge amounts of weight and I always imagined that I would injure myself if I even set foot in a place where people were capable of doing stuff like that (like, muscle ups? Who decided the human body should do that?). After actually getting into it, I found out that it isn’t the beefcake muscle cult that it seems to be! The community is refreshingly inclusive and every workout can be modified to your skill level which is really cool. If you had asked me a year ago if I could ever see myself getting up every morning to workout at 5am, I would’ve laughed in your face. But here I am, knocking out burpees and box jumps on a regular basis. CrossFit is really a lot of fun and definitely worth a shot if you’re even remotely curious!”

“I was terrified to try CF as it’s been 10 years since I worked out. My last workouts were in the military and I did NOT want that drill sergeant yelling approach to my workouts. To my surprise my experience at CF Liberate has been the exact opposite. Everyone (coaches AND members) is so supportive, encouraging, and positive. The environment is welcoming, not intimidating at all, and a great community all on its own. My son loves coming along and attending the kids club. Even though I come only for an hour class, I spend another 30-60 min after class socializing with everyone and sharing stories. I’ve met some awesome people and I can’t wait to see where CF Liberate takes me on my fitness journey. The workout are challenging, but doable, they are intense, but addicting, and I LOVE that I can come workout without worrying about having to design my own exercises. The coaches take the thought process out and you just follow along in class, and in the end you get a full body weight training and cardio workout in one. Each class is different. Never a boring class. Did I mention the owners are awesome? Jack reaches out regularly with me to see how I’m doing, if there’s anything he can do for me to help reach my goals, and if there’s anything he can do to make my experience better. I even got a postcard in the mail welcoming me and he texts me regularly to check in on me. Nat the coach helps explain all the workouts and scales each exercise to your own personal abilities, remembering all his members by name. It truly is a loving, supportive, welcoming, uplifting family gym!”

  • Rachel Greb

“I cannot say enough about CrossFit Liberate! The coaches and the while community are amazing. I was nervous and had many misconceptions about CrossFit, I was so wrong. Everyone is so welcoming, helpful, and encouraging. I have learned so much in first 45 days here and already feel so much stronger. Thank you for making this such an incredible and special place.”

  • Jennifer George

“I had been working out at a big gym as a solo lifter for a long time and reached a point where I really felt like I would benefit from some different programming, and – as importantly – a community of athletes who would push and support me. I was nervous about joining Liberate because of the preconceived notions I had about the sport of Crossfit in general. I wasn’t wrong about it being some of the most difficult things I’ve put myself through physically, but I was wrong about the kind of environment I would encounter at Liberate. The community is super supportive and we often work as a team to push and support each other. There are no mirrors and no selfies happening during class because everyone is working hard (and you don’t have time!). The coaches are outstanding and work to scale any exercise to keep it at an individual’s level and to keep it SAFE. They push and motivate you at a level that remains respectful and in your range of comfort and ability. This has been a great investment for me and I’m so happy to be part of the Liberate family!”

  • Eddie Miranda

“Lost 6% body fat in about a month! Excellent facility. Very professional and knowledgeable coaches/staff. The coaches show genuine interest in your progress.”

  • Brent Kinman

“I’ve been a member for just over a month and couldn’t be happier. Beyond just a nice facility (which it is), the leadership team takes special care to introduce you to all the movements, pays careful attention to your form and progress, and really encourages you to become your best self.

My only regret is that I didn’t start earlier!

    Highly recommended.”

  • Rob Gordon

“Awesome experience so far at CrossFit Liberate! Two months in and definitely see and (most importantly) feel change and progress. Excellent space. Great coaches who want you to be successful while understanding limitations. And a terrific community of supportive and fun members. So glad that I joined.”

  • Kaitlin Leng

“It’s the perfect vibe for a CrossFit Gym – welcoming members and staff who are there to help you in anyway possible whether or not you are highly skilled or just beginning CrossFit. They make you feel comfortable walking in and are not intimidating. Check them out! Best CrossFit gym in Athens, GA.”

  • Sofia Jackson

I’ve been a member for almost 2 months now and I have nothing but great things to say about the facility, the workouts, the coaches and the owners. I absolutely love the space – everything is always clean and the bathrooms have literally all you could ever need and more, including hair ties and make up remover wipes (love this). There aren’t mirrors in the main area which I also love because you can just grind out with no distractions. If you’re worried about form with no mirrors, don’t, because the coaches are constantly keeping an eye out and helping you correct form and improve.
The workouts are constantly changing and keep me excited to go to the gym. And I’ve seen faster results here than any other workout regimen I’ve been on, both mentally and physically. I was a little hesitant to try this out because I couldn’t even do a pull up when I started, but the coaches scale anything and everything to cater to where you are, and they’re happy to do it. Even after I had workouts where I was dying I was excited to come again the next day because the community keeps you motivated. The coaches and the owners, and the members themselves, make this a gym like no other. I always feel like I have at least 3 people cheering me on by name and wanting me to succeed, which keeps my motivation to workout here at a constant high. I, like I’m sure a lot of others, was hesitant because of the cost but let me tell ya – you get what you pay for. If there was any business I’d want to pay extra for just to see it succeed, it’d be these coaches and owners and this CrossFit community! 110% recommend!”

  • Melvin Prada

“Great trainers. Great members. Awesome workout!”

  • Elodie Terwagne

Can I add more stars? Because I love it. I’ve never met more welcoming and helpful coaches and athletes than I have at CrossFit Liberate. I started CrossFit two months ago and going to CrossFit is already so addictive (even at 6am). Why? Because coaches and people are definitively amazing!! I am learning, challenged, getting fitter and stronger everyday! The CrossFit Liberate experience is also really complete with yoga, gymnastic classes etc… everything in the same facility.

What else? Just join the CrossFit Liberate community!!

Couldn’t have asked for anything better: learning CrossFit directly in the US with wonderful, but also really competent people, ready to share experiences, tips and advices.

  • Taylor Samuels

I’ve been to a good number of boxes during my time as a CrossFitter the past year and a half. But I’ve never met more welcoming and helpful coaches and athletes than I have at CrossFit Liberate. They are extremely uplifting and I would already consider them all family. Couldn’t have asked for anything better to happen to me this year than this box opening!!

  • Ben Dickerson

First time doing CrossFit and I love it! Awesome coaches and amazing facility. My only regret is waiting this long to start!

  • Britt Lynch

I came to CrossFit Liberate looking to build a new community after I had graduated and stuck around Athens. I had pursued college athletics for a few years at UGA and was exposed to a team environment, but I didn’t realize how much I would miss it when I left. After a very difficult season in my life post-graduation, I knew I needed it back. I needed to do some rebuilding of sorts — physically, mentally, and emotionally.

The first two weeks were so encouraging and I became a student all over again. I remember something that was sent my way about two weeks into being at the gym that said: “The squat is the perfect analogy for life. It’s about standing back up after something heavy takes you down.” That really resonated with me. Heavy things in life happen. But we prepare for them when they are put on our backs; we surround ourselves with the people that care about us when that weight takes us down; we seek to stand back up, and do that for others.

This place is definitely like home. A home with a community that has my back and that community, whether they know it or not, helped me rebuild part of my life. CrossFit Liberate is a place where there’s a ton of learning, watching out for one another, encouragement to finish that last cal on the Assault bike, hell-giving for skipping the 6am class, hustle to work hard for the gains, and fun in doing “the fitness.” I feel a lot of joy being here, and I’d venture as far as to say that it’s given me part of my life back. I’m incredibly grateful.

  • Matt Cooke

Great gym with great people. Love the results I’m getting and how much I’m learning from the coaches.

  • Nathan Mallonee

After stopping team sports I’m really glad I decided to start CrossFit at the Liberate box! All the coaches are very helpful and knowledgeable and the people here are super friendly which gives it that team atmosphere that I love.  AND only 1 month in I’ve improved a ton! Wouldn’t change a thing about this place…

  • Sonia Janis

Looking to transform the way you feel physically (+ emotionally + mentally)? Try CrossFit. In Athens, it *must* be at Liberate. Best coaching, encouraging atmosphere, great facility.

  • Hall Roberts

Great facilities and great coaches. These are the best, supportive, goal driven coaches and members and I have hit my fitness goals so far and am so excited to hit the ground running in 2018! I highly recommend this fitness community if you are looking for driven, supportive, non-judgemental members and coaches!

  • Samara Talia Pattiasina

After retiring from 13 years of synchronized swimming, I sought for a group that would still give me that extra push in the workout and the team environment. I joined other fitness groups and gyms and I still didn’t find the “click”. After I found out about Crossfit Liberate, I knew right away that the box is the group that I’m looking for! The coaches are very knowledgeable and they give me that safe feeling to do crazy stuff that people would think when they hear the word CrossFit. The athletes are very dedicated (especially the 6am group!!) and make me wanna keep coming everyday. So excited to see where this box can take me!

  • Porche Chen

I love this place! I am new to CrossFit but the coaches were really welcoming and helpful when I first joined. It has been a couple months since I have started and I can definitely see an improvement in myself and my physical abilities. I am extremely glad I joined this gym!!

  • Rachel Reed

I’ve been going to CrossFit Liberate for just almost four months and it has been absolutely amazing. The coaches are outstanding – welcoming, kind, and constantly pushing me to be the best I can be. The schedule is perfect and for the first time in my CrossFit history, I’m able to attend class every day of the week if I want! I’m truly excited to get out of bed every morning to go to the gym! There is even yoga on Sunday which I have grown to look forward to each week. I cannot say enough good things about this gym!

  • John Newton

In my time at CFL thus far, Nathan stands out to me as a coach. He spends a good bit of time explaining the exercises, reasons, behind the exercises and giving tips during the workout. All the coaches are good, supportive and helpful. Even when the exercise is something we have done several times, I appreciate cues on how to do the exercise, what not to do, or any general tips.

I’m incredibly impressed that all the coaches know who I am. Bobby gave me tips and helped me with toes to bar. He knew my name even though I have never been in a class with him.

I greatly appreciate the variety of classes. I have done the regular CrossFit, liberation, and yoga. Having several options (along with glowing reviews from Justin) made me decide to join.

There is an obvious concern for customer satisfaction which is unbelievable. Thank you all for your hard work and dedication.

  • Kimberly Wise

I am not a fit person. I am trying daily to overcome this, but exercise is not my natural go to activity. This place is changing that. The people are friendly and informative. The location is excellent. I found the idea of CrossFit very daunting at first, but, since they walk you through the movements, it is actually quite easy to pick up. Granted, it’s not getting easier but the skills are getting easier. For the first time, I understand why people rave about exercise. This place has awakened an athlete in me.

  • Michael DelRossi

I’ve been a member at CrossFit Liberate for just over a month now, and I’ve got to say that I’m loving it. The space is fantastic and all the coaches (and members) are amazing. The gym is just a really enjoyable place to be: you’ll have a great time, while simultaneously working out harder than you ever thought you could. The Foundations course makes sure everyone knows the movements, and daily guidance from the coaches ensures that the workouts are always tailored to your skill level and fitness. I’ve always loved working out, but I’ve never enjoyed it more than I have the last month at CFL!
